About Outsourced Performance
I was invited to participate as a performer in an iteration of "100 Performances for the Hole," a performance art event to be held at the 19th Performance Studies International conference at Stanford University.
As I knew that I would not be physically present for the event, I utilized the services of Taskrabbit, a "virtual assistant" service in which workers can be hired remotely to execute chores and tasks. I devised a "performer's call" for the site, wrote a script to be read at the event, and hired both a performer and a photographer to document the results.
I left much to chance and the imagination of the performer and documentarian, as I had no control over how they executed or performed the event. Photographic documentation and documents can be found, here.
